Leadership Support Group for young Non-Profit Leaders Facilitated and coordinated by: Frank Julie and Associates
South Africa (and the world) is in the grip of a severe leadership crisis. Most of the political, social, economic and environmental challenges facing us today can be reduced to this one single challenge of leadership. Gone are the days of waiting for the big leader or messiah to save us and provide us with the answers to our challenges. You are the leader you have been waiting for. You must be the change you want to see in the world.
This leadership crisis is no more apparent than in the non-profit sector where a new generation of leaders is constantly grappling with the challenges of leadership and management. We need a new leadership, a new consciousness of where we are and where we want to be, leaders who are prepared to sacrifice and invest in themselves and others. We need committed leaders, those who can lead without title and who can lead from where they are!
Post 1994 many new NPO leaders/managers joined the sector, many unaware of the body of knowledge produced before them. For the older leaders the non-profit terrain has also changed drastically. This group will be a space to reconnect with this body of knowledge as well as better understand the leadership challenges in the current period.
In this group we will work together to sharpen your leadership skills, develop your potential, learn from your experiences, reflect, study and share! We will meet every week for at least 3 hours over approximately 10 sessions to discuss and debate aspects related to organizational and personal leadership contained in Frank Julie’s book “The Art of Leadership and Management on the Ground” (available free of charge at www.nonprofitconsultant.org,.za)
The group will start every session with a personal connection, then a presentation on a specific topic based on the programme, followed by open discussion. Space will also be created for networking. The session will start at 10.a.m. to 1.00 p.m. with a tea/coffee break at 11.15 a.m. Open spaces will also be allowed where participants can bring their own challenges to the group for discussion. This methodology will be under constant review to ensure it meets the needs of the group.
